Attend a Career Fair

A career fair is the perfect place to network with people in your desired industry. It gives you a chance to speak one-on-one with multiple company representatives all in the same place.

Attend a Career Fair

Career Fair 101: How to Prepare for a Fair

Every fall and spring semester, the Career Center host career fairs with local employers who are looking to hire Mt. SAC students and alumni. Note to students,  if you plan to attend the career fair, there is no need to RSVP, but do come dressed to impress with a well-written resume ready to dazzle the employers!

All students are welcome to engage with representatives from various organizations and  industries about their open  positions, hiring practices, and their work culture.  Learn how to best prepare for a career fair. Information about registering for the career fair, and how to make a good impression during the event is essential when seeking employment, and or obtaining an internship.

Participation

Participation also gives you space to:

  • Explore open positions and new career paths
  • Learn about organizations hiring in specific industries
  • Gather information from employers
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment

Before the career fair

Each employer you meet can eventually lead to a job, an internship, new prospects, and new connections.

Research

the organizations and opportunities before attending the Mt SAC Career Fair. Mention your research as you ask questions.

Dress professionally

Employers will make decisions based on professional appearance. Make a strong first impression. Introduce yourself, offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, state your purpose, ask questions, listen, and act professionally.

Communicate your purpose

State the type of position that interests you. Doing research in advance, such as job descriptions and open positions, can help develop targeted questions.

Expand your focus

Approach employers that appear unrelated to your major. A technical company may have openings in human resources, marketing, public relations, computer science or accounting. Employers do look for candidates with a strong liberal arts background and internship experience.

Highlight your strengths

Be prepared to discuss your qualifications that are most related to the job. Include clear, concise examples to demonstrate your qualifications. Practice your verbal presentation (a 30-60 second commercial about you) so you can approach employers with confidence.
